To Meet the Success Needs of Martha's Vineyard Women in Business
The women in business on Martha’s Vineyard have been yearning for a networking organization for a couple of years now and C.E.O. (Creative Entrepreneur with Opportunities), a newly formed non-profit, has been launched to meet that need for networking and skill building.
Island native India Rose, an entrepreneur herself, assumed the assets and infrastructure of the former Women’s Network, renamed and launched CEO during the spring. The organization’s website is now accepting network partnerships as well as business and corporate sponsorships as it plans networking opportunities, fundraising events and courses to enhance the talents of women in business on the island.
“We are not just about entrepreneurs. We want to encourage, mobilize and network with every woman on the island in business here, “said Ms. Rose. The organization is building a network partnership potential list for outreach and to date has more than 900 names in its database.
An entrepreneur herself since the age of seven or eight, Ms. Rose sold lemonade and painted rocks. Now, years later, she began an event and wedding consulting company in 2011. “Martha’s Vineyard isn’t an easy place to live financially so naturally we have become a playground filled with amazingly talented entrepreneurs. CEO exists to support, encourage and be an advocate for those talents.”
On Saturday August 29th CEO Lemonade Stands will be in business across the island encouraging future entrepreneurs (youngsters under the age of 18) to learn first-hand how to get a small business started and make it profitable. There will be two youngsters and one adult per stand, all proceeds will benefit the CEO planned activities.
During the coming winter, when women in business are reviewing business plans andplanning for the rush of the 2016 season, CEO will be promoting a new SCORE (Service Corp of Retired Executives) course created for women in business on Martha’s Vineyard. Details of the course will be featured in the ACE MV (Adult & community Education on Martha’s Vineyard) catalog.
“We recently conducted a small ‘needs assessment’ among women in business here and the need for a course for those in business at least three years was a major request. Fortunately, the SCORE mentors were willing to develop that course. CEO network partners will be getting a discount on the tuition for this course. This is the sort of collaboration CEO will be fostering across the island and beyond to bring women in business here the support services that they need for success, Ms. Rose said.
